What is RIDDOR?
RIDDOR is the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations. It requires employers to report certain workplace injuries to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The deadline depends on how serious the injury is and whether the person hurt was a worker.

The accident book rule
If 10 or more people normally work at the same premises at the same time, you must keep an accident book. Record every accident, including over-3-day injuries that do not need reporting. Keep records of RIDDOR-reportable incidents for at least 3 years.

What is RIDDOR?
RIDDOR is the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations. It is the law that requires employers to report certain workplace injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
How long do I have to report an over-7-day injury?
Within 15 days of the accident. An over-7-day injury is one where a worker is off work, or cannot do their normal job, for more than 7 consecutive days, not counting the day of the accident.
What is the RIDDOR deadline for a specified injury or death?
Report without delay, and within 10 days. The same applies when a non-worker, such as a visitor or member of the public, is taken straight from the scene to hospital for treatment.
Is an over-3-day injury reportable?
No. An injury that keeps a worker off for more than 3 days must be recorded, but it only becomes reportable if it goes over 7 days.

If 10 or more people normally work at the same premises at the same time, you must keep an accident book. It is good practice for smaller businesses too.
